Can you imagine a coming-of-age film so liberating as it is horrifying?

White Girl is a film spat out by Larry Clark’s KIDS and Fenton Bailey’s Party Monster. Leah, played by Morgan Sailor, is a New York freshman who finds herself romantically involved with a drug dealer, Blue, who gets arrested in between their sybaritic debauch. Leah then tries to sell his stash of coke to get him out of jail, encountering self reflection, drama, and a whole lot of drugs.

The film is Elizabeth Wood’s directorial debut and is based on her own story. In an interview with Opening Ceremony, the 32-year old told them that she moved to the hood, fell in love with a drug dealer, and he went to jail. She made it her life’s mission to get him out.

White Girl is scheduled to be released this autumn.
