Japanese fast fashion giant Uniqlo is no stranger to collaborative endeavors and, for its latest partnership, it’s teamed up with none other than renowned gallerist and art curator Jeffrey Deitch for a brand new shop-in-shop program.
Dubbed “Art for All,” the project will see Deitch setting up shop within Uniqlo’s massive Soho and 34th Street flagships in New York City to offer a bevy of limited-edition art-centric collabs — all of which will retail for under $100 USD, with most even retailing for less than $30 USD. That’s not all, though. In addition to product, the spaces will host a series of events, including a live screen-printing showcase with the likes of AIKO, Daze, Tom Otterness and Jane Dickson. Explains Fast Retailing (Uniqlo’s parent company) president of global creative, John C. Jay:
We wanted to create a new experience inspired by creativity and our principles of democratic self-expression beyond apparel and accessories. We want to get closer to the artist’s own creation and explore their ideas in 3-D, hence our decision to begin our partnership by offering objects and not clothing. Jeffrey Deitch’s idea of paying homage to the original Art for All concept by Gilbert & George using affordable and collectable objects and ephemera gives Uniqlo a fresh experience, offering art through the artist’s personal concept of accessibility.
